Legos aren’t just for kids or enthusiasts. At SoCo Village Assisted Living and Memory Care in Austin, TX, residents rediscovered the joy of building at their weekly Lego club.
Every Wednesday afternoon, older adults gather in the art room for the Brick by Brick Lego Club to create colorful sets.
New resident Danna started building Legos to connect with her grandsons. What began as a way to spend time with family soon became a hobby she enjoyed on her own.

Shortly after she moved in, staff noticed her apartment was filled with completed Lego sets — a dragon, a Mickey Mouse Steamboat Willie model, and a collection of ornate birds — showing that this hobby can appeal to any age. When other residents heard about it, the group began to grow.
Some residents had never handled Legos before. Others remember building sets with their kids decades ago. A few had been collecting and building for years. Each week, they met to sort pieces, follow instructions — or create freely — and assemble new creations, brick by brick.
“What started as Danna’s personal hobby became something that brings everyone together,” said Sarah Capp, Community Relations Director of SoCo Village. “It shows that fun doesn’t have an age limit. Building with Legos can bring out creativity, start conversations, and make everyone feel like a kid again.”
